Thank you, Joseph Albano As instructed, I run sfc.exe /scannow (was OK), then MS Safety scanner fully. I found the following malwares: SoftwareBuldler:Win32/Dowadmin. C Trojan:JS/Kovter.A They were removed. A second run of the MS Safety scanner and a run with HouseCall failed to find anything else. I have not seen the problem any more. I would suggest you to follow the steps given below and check if it helps. • Open Control panel and navigate to Internet Properties option. Now choose 'Internet Properties'. • Or Type ' inetcpl.cpl' without quotes on RUN window or in the start search box And hit enter. • Internet Properties window will be open. • Now navigate to ' Security' tab • Choose ' custom level'. • A new window for ' Security setting' will be opened. • Now search for ' Launching application and unsafe files (not recommended)' • There you will find the three option. (Disable, enable and prompt) Disable - This will not allow the file or application to be run. Enable (not secure) - This will not show any warning before opening the application and file. Prompt (recommended) - This will ask every time before opening those. • Choose the option of your own that what behavior you want to see for those files and application. Hello greghickel, DO NOT RUN THE FILE! I can almost guarantee you it is malware! Genuine security updates for Internet Explorer are only distributed via Windows Update, they are never announced by interrupting your web browsing. If you have downloaded the file, I would suggest that you first upload it to virustotal.com for analysis, and please copy the analysis URL so that you can later post it here. Then delete the file.
